Bundaberg Baptist Family Day Care Scheme Inc in Queensland has been awarded the Excellent rating from the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA).

The Excellent rating is the highest rating a service can achieve under the National Quality Framework for Early Childhood Education and Care.

“Bundaberg Baptist Family Day Care Scheme has built strong relationships with the local community to help deliver specialist programs that empower families and strengthen learning outcomes for children,” ACECQA Board Chair Rachel Hunter said.

An example of this is their free school holiday program – Active Kids. Designed to help tackle the high rate of obesity in the local area, the programs promotes healthy lifestyles through physical activities, nutrition and cooking workshops and health checks for children aged six months to 16 years.

After the local community was affected by serious floods, Bundaberg FDC also introduced a free community mobile playgroup van to support vulnerable and flood affected families. The van is resourced with a range of materials and travels to local parks and other community spaces, providing organised, educational and safe play opportunities.

“Through the implementation of Active Kids and the community mobile playgroup van, Bundaberg Baptist Family Day Care Scheme is providing families with free access to education, care and health services, irrespective of whether they are enrolled in the service, which is truly inspiring,” Ms Hunter said.

“Bundaberg Baptist Family Day Care Scheme has not only improved education and care outcomes for the children in their service, but has also improved the quality of life for the broader community.

“Congratulations to Bundaberg Baptist Family Day Care Scheme on this outstanding achievement and the outstanding work they have done to provide children with the best possible start in life.”

The service runs a number of other programs to help families, including:

  • Home Interaction Program for Parents and Youngsters (HIPPY) which supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parents and carers in giving their child a love of learning.
