Canberra Grammar School Northside Pre-Kindergarten receives Excellent rating
Date awarded 08/07/2015
Valid until 07/07/2018
Canberra Grammar School Northside Pre-Kindergarten (CGS Northside) is the latest service to earn the Excellent rating from the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA).
The Excellent rating is the highest rating an education and care service can achieve under the National Quality Framework (NQF) for early childhood education and care.
ACECQA Board Chair Rachel Hunter praised CGS Northside on their achievement.
“Congratulations to Canberra Grammar School Northside Pre-Kindergarten on their outstanding achievement and the commitment they have shown to their children and community, as well as continually improving practice at the service,” Ms Hunter said.
“CGS Northside is dedicated to improving outcomes for children and has demonstrated excellence across all three awarding criteria.”
Examples of CGS Northside’s initiatives include their innovative use of technology and nature-based experiences to further children’s understanding and self-expression.
The great outdoors is a fundamental part of the pre-kindergarten’s curriculum. CGS Northside’s Bush School brings children, families and educators together to explore and investigate the natural environment. During fortnightly Bush School, family members are encouraged to lead and record explorations of the surrounding habitat with small groups of children and educators. This is then extended upon by the educators when the groups return to the service.
Learning from the Bush School is also utilised by the service’s art specialist, who works with educators to promote children’s observational skills. Educators use technology, such as a portal with photos that can be accessed by family members, to support children’s learning.
Services that receive an overall rating of ‘Exceeding the National Quality Standard’ can apply for the Excellent rating.
