Capalaba Child Care and Early Education Centre in Queensland has been awarded the Excellent rating from the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA). 

ACECQA Board Chair Rachel Hunter said Capalaba Child Care and Early Education Centre received the Excellent rating for its outstanding work in enhancing children’s learning and growth and for its ongoing commitment to professional development.   

Capalaba Child Care and Early Education Centre has drawn on its local Australian Early Development Census (AEDC) results to support children’s social and emotional development. The AEDC is a nationwide census that shows how young Australian children have developed as they start their first year of full-time school.

Supports include targeted professional development for educators, programs to build children’s resilience and wellbeing, and methods to encourage children’s independence and sense of agency. The centre shares these strategies more broadly through a library of support materials for families and working with a community action group to address areas of vulnerability.

The service also has a strong commitment to supporting and up-skilling its educators in all practices and programs before they are implemented. Programs can then be modified to best meet the circumstances of the children and families that attend the service. It also encourages a strong workplace culture which results in exceptional critical reflection among staff. 

“We are pleased to award the Excellent rating to Capalaba Child Care and Early Education Centre for its commitment to improving quality outcomes for children and families,” Ms Hunter said. 

“Congratulations to the educators for their continued efforts to raise the bar on quality education and care.”

About the Excellent rating

The Excellent rating is the highest rating that can be given to children’s education and care services. It can only be awarded by ACECQA and is not a rating given during the assessment and rating process.

Services that receive an overall rating of ‘Exceeding the National Quality Standard’ can apply.
