Pelican Waters-Golden Beach Preschool Kindergarten and Child Care Excellent rating

The Excellent rating is the highest rating a service can achieve under the National Quality Framework (NQF) for early childhood education and care. 

ACECQA Board Chair Rachel Hunter said the educators’ innovative programs and strategies to enhance children’s learning and growth helped the service earn the award. 

Pelican Waters – Golden Beach Preschool Kindergarten and Child Care promotes children’s connections to their community, and recognises the important role positive, respectful, relationships play in the children’s learning and development. The service has worked with St Mary’s Aged Care Facility for several years, where the children and residents participate in shared activities like ‘Community Inter-Age Choir’. This has resulted in genuine relationships as well as encouraging the children to advocate for the elderly. 

The great outdoors is also a fundamental part of the curriculum at Pelican Waters – Golden Beach Preschool Kindergarten and Child Care. The outdoor educator organises regular visits to the surrounding bush and beach environments and specifically plans programs to embrace the service’s nature play philosophy and environmental strategy. 

To extend educators’, children’s and families’ knowledge of local indigenous culture, connections to the land and the natural environment, the service employs an indigenous teacher and works with an indigenous elder. 

“Pelican Waters – Golden Beach Preschool Kindergarten and Child Care takes an active leadership role in the community and wider early childhood sector,” Ms Hunter said. 

“The commitment they have shown to their children and community, as well as continually improving practice at the service, is outstanding.”
