Skilled Migration FAQs
Am I eligible to apply for a skills assessment?
You are eligible to apply for a Skills Assessment if your nominated position is listed on the Skilled Occupations List on the Department of Home Affairs website with ACECQA listed as the relevant skills assessing authority.
ACECQA is the approved Assessing Authority for the following occupations:
- Child Care Centre Manager (ANZSCO 134111)
- Child Care Worker (group leaders only) (ANZSCO 421111).
You must check with Home Affairs before submitting your application to ensure your visa pathway requires a skills assessment.
What is an ACECQA approved diploma level (or higher) education and care qualification?
Under the National Quality Framework (NQF) ACECQA is responsible for publishing a list of approved Early Childhood Teacher (ECT), diploma and certificate III level qualifications. Our Qualifications Checker can also help you determine if you hold an ACECQA approved diploma level (or higher) qualification.
If you do not hold an ACECQA approved diploma level (or higher) qualification it will be assessed for equivalency as part of your skills assessment application.
ACECQA has already assessed my qualifications under the National Quality Framework (NQF). Can I use this for my visa application instead of a skills assessment?
No. ACECQA’s qualification assessment under the NQF is not for the purpose of, or related to, any migration or visa application process in Australia. If you require a skills assessment for migration purposes you will need to submit a Skills Assessment Application.
How long will it take to process my skills assessment?
ACECQA is committed to completing skills assessment applications within 60 calendar days from the date we receive a complete application. If your application is missing information or documentation your assessment outcome may be delayed.
Does ACECQA have a fast track option for skills assessments?
No, ACECQA does not have a fast track option.
How will I know if ACECQA has received my application?
ACECQA will confirm receipt of the application within 10 business days. This email will confirm if your application is complete or whether additional information is required to complete your assessment.
Can my work experience substitute for a qualification?
No. ACECQA does not accept work experience as a substitute for a formal qualification.
How will I receive my outcome?
You will receive notification of your assessment outcome via email. If your application is successful you will also receive a certificate by mail.
What if I disagree with the outcome of my assessment?
If you disagree with the outcome of your assessment you can request a review. The basis of your request for a review will determine whether you need to formally submit a review application and pay the associated fee of $900. We strongly recommend you contact your case officer before submitting a formal review application.
My previous skills assessment has expired. What do I do now?
An ACECQA skills assessment is valid for three years from the date of issue. If your previous skills assessment has expired you will need to re-apply.
